FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT: A CAREER IN PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRACY.

(New York): Bobbs-Merrill Co. (1931). First edition. INSCRIBED, "To Hazel W. Howes, With the sincere regards and thanks of Franklin D. Roosevelt / June 1932." A nice association as her husband, William Washington Howes, served under Roosevelt as Second and First Assistant Postmaster General from 1933 to 1940 (he brought airmail service to the Midwest). Previously, he was a member of the South Dakota Senate, Chairman of the South Dakota Democratic Party and a member of the Democratic National Committee. He is reported to have been very influential in helping FDR win the Midwest. The inscription to Mrs. Howes is nicer than the one FDR wrote for her husband in his copy of this same book (we also handled that copy). Near fine with offset near inner hinges; in a lightly soiled dust jacket with a thumb-nail size chip at top of back cover and minor edgewear but no other chipping.
