INSCRIBED on half-title page by Fields to Elizabeth Fairchild. The poet and essayist Annie Fields was friends with many literary notables of her day, including Hawthorne. Intricately engraved frontispiece and title page; top edge gilt. Very good with minor rubbing to the edges, most noticeably at the spine ends and corners, still an attractive copy.
