Dr. Leared was born in Wexford, graduated Trinity College, Dublin, and practiced there and then in London. This, his most notable work, went into seven editions over 21 years. He travelled to Iceland, America, and Morocco. "Leared’s wide culture and congenial personality brought him a large circle of friends, scientific, literary and artistic, as well as the membership of many learned societies at home and abroad." Includes chapters on the physiology, causes and symptoms of dyspepsia; accidental and habitual dyspepsia; treatments; three appendices regarding experiments in flatulency, heartburn and pepsin; and an index. Names on front pastedown (two), a touch of old damp staining, quarter-inch missing from head of spine, otherwise very good with covers clean, spine lettering bright, and interior free from foxing.
