A CERTAIN WORLD: A Commonplace Book.

New York: Viking Press, (1970). First edition. Quotations selected and with commentary by Auden; arranged in alphabetical sequence on topics ranging from "Accedie" to "Writing." Auden described this work as the closest he would ever come to writing an autobiography. It was, he wrote, "a map of my planet." Uncorrected proof in tall, narrow, somewhat soiled yellow paperwraps with partial glass ring on front cover, 3 inches of mostly clear tape at bottom of spine, fore-edge of the slightly over-hanging front cover understandably nicked, and final blank page partially glued to inside rear cover. Prospective publication date and price of "May 28, 1970" and "$8.95" written on front cover. Scarce in this format.
