John Millington Synge (1871- 1909) was an Irish playwright, poet, prose writer, collector of folklore, and one of the co-founders of the Abbey Theatre. He is best known for his play "The Playboy of the Western World," which caused riots during its opening run at the Abbey. "He was a drifting silent man full of hidden passion, and loved wild islands, because there, set out in the light of day, he saw what lay hidden in himself."--Yeats on Synge, Linen spine over paper boards. Faint damp stain to base of spine extending slightly to covers, otherwise very good to near fine. SIGNED BY YEATS, THOUGH NOT CALLED FOR.
