"A Little Dinner At Timmins's" first appeared in Punch Magazine and "The Bedford-Row Conspiracy" first appeared in COMIC TALES AND SKETCHES [Van Duzer, pp. 67 & 88]. This combined edition was one of the "Miscellanies" issued in yellow wrappers from 1853 to 1957. Bound in gilt-stamped full red leather Sangorski & Sutcliffe for Brentano's with ORIGINAL YELLOW WRAPPERS BOUND IN at rear, including a large portion of the spine. Edges of free endpapers darkened where offset from inner dentelles, evidence of small label removed from front pastedown, outer hinges rubbed, and inner hinges reinforced with archival tape, otherwise very good or better.

London: Smith, Elder & Co. 1850. First edition. Illustrated with 15 HAND-COLORED PLATES, including the title vignette and frontispiece. In a lovely, full red leather, gilt-stamped binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe for Brentano's WITH ORIGINAL COVERS BOUND IN. Small shelf label on front pastedown, free endpaper edges darkened where offset from inner dentelles, outer hinges rubbed, otherwise near fine. Thackeray (1811 - 1863) was famous for his satirical works, particularly VANITY FAIR, a panoramic portrait of English society. This is one of his five short "Christmas Books" criticizing English nobility which he wrote under his pen name, M. A. Titmarsh.
