PHOTOGRAPHS. Eudora Welty, foreword, Reynolds Price. PHOTOGRAPHS.
Jackson: University Press of Mississippi, (1989). First edition, limited issue. With an introduction by her friend and fellow Southern writer, Reynolds Price. Number 324 of 375 numbered copies SIGNED BY WELTY (there were also 2 lettered issues). This volume collects most of Welty's black-and-white photographs from the 1930's to 1950's, many from her period working for the Works Progress Administration. In 1935, Eudora Welty began working for the WPA as a publicity agent, collecting stories, conducting interviews, and taking photographs of people from all economic and social classes in her spare time. Her photography formed the basis for several of her short stories, including "Why I Live at the P.O," inspired by a woman she photographed ironing in the back of a small post office [Wikipedia]. Slight imperfection in cloth at front spine gutter, otherwise bright and fine in original cloth slipcase with three circular light spots but otherwise fine. Issued without dust jacket.
