Initially issued anonymously in both countries but with later editions identifying the author as Starling. 12mo original green cloth boards; printed paper spine labels; 219 pp. plus 4 pp. publisher’s ads & 205 pp. including index. Over 200 examples of women displaying courage and virtue. In good condition overall with chipping to spine labels, repair mid-spine volume I, small areas of cloth loss to both volumes, first blank loose at top and front hinge starting at title page volume I. Smattering of foxing to endpapers otherwise interiors are relatively clean and bright.
