First edition. An early, perhaps first, "yellow peril novel" by an American. Chinese laborers take over the United States and the Imperial Dragon flag is raised over the Capitol. 5 full-page lithograph illustrations by G. F. Keller. A nice copy with the gilt pictorial front panel of a Buddha-like figure sitting in front of the Capitol. Red cloth. Spine lettering just a touch faded, otherwise fine with the barest wear on corners and spine ends. Unusual in such nice shape. Bleiler page 62.
